HEADLANDS CENTER FOR THE ARTS

The Artist in Residence (AIR) program awards fully sponsored residencies to approximately 50 local, national, and international artists each year. Residencies of four to ten weeks include studio space, chef-prepared meals, housing, travel and living expenses. AIRs become part of a dynamic community of artists participating in Headlands’ other programs, allowing for exchange and collaborative relationships to develop within the artist community on campus. Artists selected for this program are at all career stages and work in all media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, film, video, new media, installation, fiction and nonfiction writing, poetry, dance, music, interdisciplinary, social practice, arts professions, and architecture.

2027 Artist in Residence Applications will open on April 1, 2026 and close on June 1, 2026. All applicants will be notified by December 11, 2026.


HEADLANDS CENTER FOR THE ARTS - CHIARO AWARD

The Chiaro Award is a fully sponsored artist residency and $15,000 prize for two mid-career painters residing in the United States. The Chiaro Award residency includes a private studio, and inclusion in a dynamic network of Headlands’ creative practitioners and thinkers.

Chamberlain Award is a fully sponsored artist residency and $10,000 prize to support an artist working in the social practice discipline. This award supports artists employing non-traditional media to creatively engage with social concerns of the day. 


CARIBBEAN CULTURAL INSTITUTE ARTIST FELLOWSHIP

MIAMI, FL

GRANT: $4,000


The CCI Artist Fellowship is intended for emerging to mid-career Caribbean artists and cultural practitioners based in the Caribbean or its diaspora and working across a range of disciplines and media. This opportunity aims to support the development of artistic practice via studio work; mentorship; institutional collaborations; networking with local artists, art professionals, and scholars; and/or engagement in public programs. The CCI will provide institutional support as well as access to PAMM’s curatorial resources and networks. The CCI Artist Fellowship also offers opportunities for public program collaboration with Green Space Miami and active engagement with the academic community at FIU-LACC.


The CCI Artist Fellow will be hosted in Miami for up to two months and provided with accommodations, a stipend, and a studio space in collaboration with the Bakehouse Art Complex. Travel expenses to and from Miami will be covered. A production budget of up to $4,000 will be allocated depending upon the needs of the project.


CARIBBEAN CULTURAL INSTITUTE ARTIST FELLOWSHIP

MIAMI, FL

2026 CCI + Women Photographers International Archive (WOPHA) Fellowship

The CCI + WOPHA Fellowship is open to emerging and mid-career women and nonbinary photographers from the Caribbean or its diaspora. During the fellowship period, the selected CCI + WOPHA Fellow will focus on the production of a new body of work or on expanding an ongoing project. Together, CCI + WOPHA will provide institutional support as well as access to their curatorial resources and networks. The fellow will be able to develop their photographic practice through research, mentorship and engagement with the local art community.* The CCI + WOPHA Fellowship also offers opportunities for collaboration with Green Space Miami and active engagement with the academic community at FIU-LACC.

The 2026 CCI + WOPHA Fellowship will run from September through November and follow a hybrid format combining in-person and remote participation. The Fellowship will include a residency period in Miami at El Espacio 23 during the month of September. The CCI + WOPHA Fellow will receive a stipend and production funds of up to $4,000 depending upon the needs of the project. If the selected fellow is not currently based in Miami, CCI + WOPHA will provide round-trip airfare to Miami.

* In this context, photographic practice includes, but is not limited to, creating images with or without cameras; automated and computational processes; augmented photography; and collecting, archiving, and/or circulating images.


UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS FORT SMITH - ART & DESIGN ARTIST IN RESIDENCE

FORT SMITH, AK

The UAFS Art & Design Artist In Residence (AIR) program, made possible by the generosity of the Windgate Foundation, offers visual artists and designers the opportunity to take up residence in Fort Smith, Arkansas and to meaningfully participate in the creative culture of the UAFS Art & Design Department. Recipients will be active professionals in their respective fields and will contribute to the growth and development of the UAFS curriculum.


This program enriches students' experience, breadth of knowledge, and connection to creative communities while providing meaningful support for our residents’ creative practices. Residents will have access to and can participate in developing interdisciplinary initiatives and interdepartmental programs across the UAFS campus. The AIR program at UAFS seeks to proactively uphold the value of diverse perspectives, identities, expertise, and experience; members of marginalized and historically excluded populations are encouraged to apply.


11TH INTERNATIONAL SCULPTURE SYMPOSIUM

DIFFERDANGE, LUXEMBOURG

The symposium has been taking place since 2007 and is organised every 2 years with the aim of bringing the art of sculpture closer to the general public. The works are placed in public spaces and become a permanent part of the cultural heritage of Differdange.


The Biennale takes place under a different theme each time and is dedicated to different materials.

Artists will work in outdoor workshop spaces provided by the organizer, which will be sheltered, illuminated, and suitably equipped.


Artists will sculpt for ten days using stone provided by the organizer. The presence of the artists on site throughout the entire duration of the symposium is mandatory, with the exception of the rest day scheduled for 1 June 2027. Working hours are set between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., with a lunch break.

Each sculptor will receive €3,000 (three thousand euros) for their participation, paid at the end of the symposium by bank transfer to an international bank account. No other method of payment will be accepted. 


GOETHE INSTITUT - FILE NOT FOUND

MUNICH, GERMANY

his is an open call to participate in FILE NOT FOUND, a project that explores the risks and challenges archives face as sites of cultural memory, resistant knowledge, and alternative perspectives under growing political pressure. 


Ten practitioners - artists, thinkers, activists, theatre makers, dancers, and musicians, etc. - will be selected for residencies at ten cultural archives around the world. During their time on site, they will engage with existing archival practices, explore both safe and not-so-safe spaces, investigate traditional and experimental methods of archiving, and ideally develop artistically subversive approaches. These approaches aim to strengthen the resilience of archives against external influence, both now and in the future. 


Who can apply: Artists worldwide (all disciplines)

Residency: On-site, 2 weeks to 2 months

Period: between August 2026 and May 2027

Fee: 4,000€ (2,000€ artist fee + 2,000€ production budget)

UPPSALA ARTISTS ASSOCIATION - INTERNATIONAL ARTIST-IN RESIDENCE

UPPSALA, SWEDEN

Theme: The Walmstedtska Cultural Quarter, Uppsala, Sweden

Uppsala Konstnärsklubb (Uppsala Artists’ Association) is pleased to invite international artists to apply for a two-week immersive residency in Uppsala, Sweden, from October 12 to October 26, 2026. This pilot project explores the historical, social, and cultural layers of the Walmstedtska Cultural Quarter—a "hidden gem" in the heart of the city. We are looking for an artist who is eager to engage with a site-specific history, interact with our local creative community, and translate their findings into a public artistic process and exhibition.


The Residency & Exhibition

  • Residency period: October 12 – October 26, 2026.

  • Working space: A dedicated studio at Uppsala Konstnärsklubb.

  • Exhibition: The residency culminates in an exhibition in Galleri 2, opening on October 24 and running through November 8, 2026. The format is open—it may result in a finished work, a documentation of the process, a performance, an installation, or other forms of artistic expression.


What we offer

SERPENTINE ARTS TECHNOLOGIES - FUTURE ART ECOSYSTEMS R&D FELLOWSHIP

LONDON, UK

The inaugural Future Art Ecosystems (FAE) R&D Fellowship: Art x Convergence is a six-month, low-residency programme supporting individual practitioners and broader ecosystem development in art and advanced technologies.


Launching in September 2026, the FAE Fellowship will convene four practitioners working across art and advanced technologies. Applications are now open for artists, curators, technologists and organisers, supporting early-stage creative research grounded in process, dialogue and shared learning.

Fellows are invited to pursue a defined research question connected to their practice or a project in development, in response to this year’s FAE Fellowship theme of Art x Convergence. Through a combination of professional and specialist mentorship, network development, cohort exchange, and public-facing process sharing, the FAE Fellowship supports the fellows’ research in motion.


The inaugural FAE Fellowship runs from September 2026 to March 2027 in a low-residency hybrid format, combining biweekly online cohort sessions and bespoke mentorship with three in-person weekend intensives in London across September 2026, November 2026, and March 2027 (exact dates will be shared with selected fellows). Four fellows (individuals or collectives) will each receive a £10,000 award, alongside travel and accommodation support for the London weekends, plus specialist seminars, workshops and structured peer learning through the cohort. 


Applications are open until midnight BST 7 June 2026 to practitioners working at the intersection of art and advanced technologies, and international applicants are welcome, provided fellows can attend the three London intensives. 


OX-BOW SCHOOL OF ART & ARTIST RESIDENCY

SAUGATUCK , MICHIGAN

This intensive, three-week studio residency serves artists from all generations and career stages who are seeking deep creative development and meaningful connection. Occurring August 9–29, 2026 on Ox-Bow’s historic campus in Saugatuck, Michigan, the residency brings together one facilitator, visiting artists, and a small cohort of residents for an immersive and collaborative experience. Longform is especially well-suited for painters, printmakers, fiber artists, and writers seeking a focused, discussion-driven environment that supports independent practice and thoughtful feedback.


Residents receive private accommodations, a dedicated studio space, and three chef-prepared meals per day. This structure allows participants to focus fully on their practice while benefiting from Ox-Bow’s supportive and communal environment.


Inspired by alternative learning models and low-residency academic programs, Longform cultivates a rhythm of rigorous engagement and open exploration. Participants take part in group discussions based on readings and topics selected by the facilitator, weekly studio visits with visiting artists, and hands-on workshops that expand familiarity with Ox-Bow’s facilities—including printmaking and papermaking. In the evenings, residents share their work through informal presentations that celebrate dialogue, curiosity, and exchange.


FUNDACIÓN CASA WABI + ART REVIEW

PUERTO ESCONDIDO, MEXICO

Fundación Casa Wabi and ArtReview are pleased to announce the ninth iteration of our open-call residency prize for three artists interested in cultural cross-fertilization and wishing to enter into a creative dialogue with members of one of the communities around Casa Wabi in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca (México). 

Casa Wabi is located on the Pacific coast 30 minutes north of Puerto Escondido airport. Situated right on the beach, the main facility was designed by the Japanese architect Tadao Ando at the invitation of founder, Mexican artist Bosco Sodi. Facilities include an open-air, multipurpose palapa, six independent bungalows, six open ,and two closed, studios, and various other work areas that collectively create the ideal setting in which to recharge one’s energy amongst other artists. 


The residency lasts approximately five to six weeks, depending on the selected period. Once selected, residents will coordinate with the Casa Wabi team to determine the most suitable dates for their stay in 2027. Residencies are scheduled within specific timeframes and take place alongside other artists, so participants are expected to be present for the full agreed period. 



PRAIRIE RONDE ARTIST RESIDENCY 

VICKSBURG, MI

We’re looking for individuals who are highly independent, engaged and curious. We do not limit our residency to any specific medium, but rather are looking for diverse artists who can creatively interact with The Mill.

We host three sessions annually and accept 2 – 4 residents per session. Accepted residents receive a stipend of $2,000 for 5 – 6 weeks, a $500 travel grant and private housing. We work with residents to share their work with the community (a gallery show, public workshop or other).




PENLAND CORE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

PENLAND, NC

The Penland Core Fellowship Program is a one-year work-study fellowship for early career artists looking to expand technical skills and material fluency while working to support the day-to-day operations of a craft school. Artists of all backgrounds who want to advance their educational goals and explore their capacity to contribute to a thriving creative community are encouraged to apply. 

Our Goals for the Fellowship:

  • To shape the future of contemporary craft by creating opportunity, connection, and immersive education for early career artists who bring a range of perspectives and goals to the school.

  • To bring together a diverse group of artists with a range of experience, perspectives, strengths, and goals and provide access to craft education.


Core Fellows : 

  • Take two concentrations and five shorter workshops in Penland’s studios

    • Media taught at Penland: books, clay, drawing/painting, glass, letterpress, iron, metals, papermaking, photography, printmaking, textiles, and wood.

  • Live in a shared house each with a private room and shared bath, basic utilities included

  • Receive food while programming is in session (approximately 8 months)

  • Receive $13,000 stipend over the fellowship (Core fellows are responsible for personal expenses and for paying studio fees associated with a workshop.)

  • While working 20-25 hours per week for the school such as cooking, cleaning, and supporting the daily operations of the school


TOKYO ART AND SPACE - INTERNATIONAL CREATOR RESIDENCY

TOKYO, JAPAN

Tokyo Arts and Space (TOKAS) offers artist-in-residence programs for international creators working in various creative fields to stay, engage in creation, and conduct research activities in Tokyo. It also provides creators with the opportunities to exchange creative ideas and to present outcomes of their residency at TOKAS-organized events, such as the OPEN STUDIO. The open-call program “International Creator Residency Program” aims to invite distinguished and highly motivated creators in the fields of visual arts, design, and architecture from all over the world and offer them with opportunities to work in Tokyo. We provide financial support to allow creators to develop and present new works and ideas. The research outcome of the residency will be presented at the OPEN STUDIO at TOKAS Residency. 


WHAT TOKAS OFFERS:

 -Airfare: A round-trip economy-class air ticket between the nearest airport from the   place of residence and Tokyo (either Narita or Haneda Airport) will be provided

BETWEEN BRIDGES RESIDENCY

BERLIN, GERMANY

Between Bridges is pleased to announce the open call for the next residency. The residency will take place from January to June 2027 and includes a working phase as well as a one-month exhibition or public presentation. 


The residency provides access to the facilities at Keithstraße 15 in Berlin Schöneberg, located on the ground floor of a residential building near Wittenbergplatz subway station. The facilities include two large work and exhibition spaces, a storage area, an office, a small kitchen, and a bathroom, totaling 100 m². Please note that the spaces are not wheelchair accessible and not suitable for living.

 

The residency offers a monthly stipend of €1,500 (regardless of the number of participants) and the opportunity for studio visits with art professionals from the Between Bridges network. An additional budget of €5,000 is allocated specifically for the exhibition or presentation. Independent work is required. Between Bridges cannot assist with installation but can support in identifying suitable service providers. The exhibition will be promoted through Between Bridges’ communication channels and documented on the website. 


Between Bridges is a foundation (est. 2017 by Wolfgang Tillmans) committed to humanism, solidarity, and the advancement of democracy. It supports the arts, LGBTQ+ rights and anti-racism work.

 

Between Bridges is also a non-profit exhibition space, initiated in 2006 by Wolfgang Tillmans.
